Chaise Range
Brunswick Hills Police have issued a photo of a Cleveland man wanted on a warrant charging him with theft, burglary, improperly handling a firearm in a motor vehicle and obstructing justice.
Police said Chaise Range, 18, of Cleveland fled from officers during a traffic stop last week in Heatherwood Lakes Apartments.
According to Police Chief Sharon MacKay, Officers Wayne Fisher and Theodore Makrinos, were on patrol in the apartment complex and pulled over a car for an expired license plate around 6:46 p.m.
There were three occupants in the car, and officers noted a smell of marijuana. Officers asked the driver and two passengers to step outside the car for a pat down.
One of the passengers, later identified as Range, fit the description of a trespassing complaint from an hour earlier on Lake Pine Circle. After stepping out of the car, Range fled on foot.
Officers from the Medina County Sheriff’s office and Strongsville assisted with a search for Range, but he could not be located.
When officers inventoried the car, they found items that were reported taken from a burglary on White Pine Drive, a street in the same neighborhood as Lake Pine Circle. Among the stolen items was a loaded handgun.
The driver of the car, identified as a Lorain man, was issued misdemeanor citations for an expired license plate and possession of marijuana. Charges are also pending against a juvenile passenger from Cleveland. The driver told police he was in the area visiting a friend who lived in the township.
MacKay praised the work of neighborhood residents in calling police to report a suspicious man seen in the backyards of their neighborhood.
“I’d like to thank the residents that made the phone calls to us,” MacKay said. “Because someone called and thought something seemed wrong, we were able to find the suspect and get a warrant issued.”
She also thanked officers for their work in identifying Range and getting a warrant issued for his arrest.
“It was just good police work,” she said.
MacKay is asking anyone who sees Range to contact police to report his whereabouts.
“Do not attempt to detain him yourself,” she said.
